Thermal Dispersion Study is carried out to evaluate heat radiation impacts from heat sources, such as generators, boilers, furnaces, etc., to people working/living nearby. This study identifies the heat radiation and temperature at certain distance from heat sources and assess its impacts to people by comparing with human Threshold Limit Values (TLVs). HSEConsulting carries out heat contour studies using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) softwares to model the heat radiation and heat contours for industrial plants and and especially for Oil&Gas installations, offshore and onshore.

CFD is particularly useful when releases may take place in areas with obstructions such as buildings, process vessels or piping. CFD requires a model of a finite volume of space to be constructed and subdivided into a grid of smaller elements or cells. The preparation of a CFD model is time consuming and other methods of consequence calculation may be more appropriate unless the effects of obstructions are of critical importance.
